i spent my formative years in northern california – mill valley, specifically. thus, i am a bit of a foodie. from way back. i found this receipt in my mom’s papers a couple of years ago, and am trying to think of how i can display it. in the meantime, here is the most charming dinner check you might ever receive…

this dinner was served in the charming restaurant, which at the time – i assume it is really still the same, only been there once since for lunch like 10 years ago – was served to diners at their tables scattered amongst rooms of the farm house with dining tables. it was wonderful! the food i remember was some kind of cranberry cake for desert – it had some kind of glaze… it was simple and wonderful and i felt like the most special person being able to experience it with my family. wish i could dine out for 2 at those prices with that amount of wine!!!!!!
and can you believe the 1984 prices! i also remember a christmas dinner with my family circa 1981 probably at auberge du soleil - this was during masa’s tenure – and i distinctly remember that the dinner (with wine) for 8 people was $780.00. geez, today that would be 3 times that! mmmmmmmmm, no wonder i think victoria and alberts is a bargain!

That receipt is truly lovely. Also, two bottles of wine for $30? Unheard of these days. (Unless it’s a box of Franzia. . .)
