“…49ers to Wear Throwback Jersey to Honor Walsh

August 06, 2007

Dear Faithful 49ers Fans:

Joe Montana to Dwight Clark. “The Catch.” Our first Super Bowl victory weeks later. The huge celebration closed down Market Street as it united the San Francisco Bay Area.

Those moments 25 years ago marked the beginning of an unprecedented legacy for our 49ers: Five Super Bowl championships that continue to instill pride and loyalty throughout the Bay Area. And they all began under the leadership genius of Coach Bill Walsh.

We have heard from so many of you how the vivid memories of Coach Walsh and that storybook season remain with you even today, like this posting in our Bill Walsh Memory Book:

“I can remember the 1981 season like it was yesterday. I can remember watching a team destined to win it all, and the foundation laid for what would become the greatest dynasty in modern football history. Today…beyond my family and friends, the single greatest joy in my life remains the 49ers. I owe that part of my life to one person, Bill Walsh.”

The 49ers will wear the throwback uniforms, worn here at the Super Bowl team photo in 1988.
Many of you have written or called asking us to have players wear the “throwback” jerseys for a game to honor Coach Walsh. We’re proud to say that we will do just that.

In memory of the start Bill Walsh provided for that incredible journey, the 49ers players will wear jerseys from that era during our season-opening September 10 Monday Night Football game against Arizona. That game has been chosen as the 49ers tribute to Bill Walsh; the jerseys will make the game even more special…John York…”

i know why we continue to lose. the niners need to get serious and put on the winning outfits

cool and old school:

i know this is nothing new, but i was reminiscing… OMG, we loved the niners. my mom sat on a plane (a regular old southwest hopper from SF to SD) with tom rathman (my mom wanted me to marry him) TR

and, i think it might have been brent jones actually – she got an autograph too (on a shirt i still have). also she says she was across from roger craig downtown SF passing in traffic – and he gave her the “’sup” nod from behind the wheel of his black, convertible mercedes…. she was giddy for days….
